Misdemeanor Crimes

In Grant County, misdemeanor crimes may be filed in either Grant County Circuit Court or Grant County Justice Court. The District Attorney determines which court the charges are to be filed in.

Arraignment

If you have been cited into Grant County Justice Court for a misdemeanor crime, your personal appearance at arraignment (1st appearance) is mandatory. At arraignment you will be advised of the charges that have been filed against you, what the maximum penalties may be, and what your rights as a defendant are.

crime classifications

For the purpose of sentencing, misdemeanors in Oregon are classified as either A, B, C or U. The maximum penalties that may be imposed upon conviction of a misdemeanor crime are:

  • Class A - $6250 fine, up to 364 days in jail, or both
  • Class B - $2500 fine, 6 months in jail, or both
  • Class C - $1250 fine, 30 days in jail, or both
  • Class U - Unclassified

  • Misdemeanor Possession
  • Misuse of 911
  • Negotiating Bad Checks
  • Reckless Driving
  • Theft II & III
